Help me DESIGN a set-up for this WATERING-SYSTEM for my K9…?

I keep a Great Dane in a fenced-area in my backyard. – He has everything a Happy dog needs in there.
I am planning to change his water-supply system from what I have been using for the past 7 years; filling and re-filling his water throughout the daytime and night-times.
I have bought an EVER*FULL*BOWL outdoor water dish that stays constantly full when connected to a water-source on my house.
The nearest water tap is 10 feet away from the indoor patio, where I now keep his food & water bowls.
Rather than connect a 10 foot water-hose to this water bowl, I’m tempting to connect the bowl with the 2 foot pipe that comes with this set to my house, directly and leave the bowl outdoors, in the direct sunlight.

Rather than (again) my continually monitoring the cleanliness of his water (I RUN FRESH WELL WATER TO MY HOUSE so mossy-growth is a problem without routine washing and refreshing the water) what can be my options?
I am planning to start using this “connected-system” when the weather stops freezing. Current local temps drop far below the freezing-mark.

Thanks for ideas / techniques I can try when the weather warms up.
I want ideas from fellow 2-legs with experience with their 4-legs which is why I post in this category.

Adopting two older cats?

A friend of mine has two older cats…I am guessing five years old. In passing, she said that if I ever wanted the cats, she would let me have them because she doesn’t have time for them. They appear to be wonderful cats…very good with my daughter. The cats are used to being outside and they would be outside cats for us too. We have an acre lot with about 1/3 of an acre in the back yard enclosed by a 7 foot high privacy fence. My concern is that on two sides of our backyard…on the other side of the fence…our neighbors have large dogs. The cats were de-clawed. I don’t believe in de-clawing but the principal of such isn’t a main issue. My concern would be how easily the cats could get out of our back yard and possibly into a neighbor’s yard with dogs. Three years ago, my sister’s cat got out and ended up in the back yard of a neighbor with a big dog and it didn’t end well…and this cat had claws.

We couldn’t make them inside pets b/c my wife is allergic. Yet, she is the one that wants the cats the worst. According to her…these cats haven’t made her sneeze. I am not too worried about the cats and the weather. Our friend, like I said, has them as outside cats. My dad and I made a “cat box” design for our cats growing up that worked great and one cat used the box for 17 years as shelter.

Thoughts on if this is a good idea?

If they’re declawed and they can’t be inside cats, do not adopt them. I know you have the best intentions but a cat’s claws are its basic defenses, especially as you describe you live on a big piece of land where there might be big dogs that will try to attack it. The cat has no defense against the dogs. If there are coyotes and other predators on your land the cat will most likely be eaten by them. Many cats with claws meet their demise from coyotes so one without claws has a higher chance of death outdoors.
As for being allergic, I myself am terribly allergic to cats and dogs especially cats. However I’ve had two cats and five dogs in my life. My second cat is the one I own now that I adopted as a stray. Sometimes my allergies drive me crazy because of the cat but I enjoy his company too much to care. However, I would go insane without anti-histamines so I would suggest that if your wife wants the cats she will probably need anti-histamines. She can get a prescription or she can buy over the counter like zyrtec and I suggest that she get nasal spray as well. Good Luck!

Which would you build?
We have our block of land and it isn’t very big (600m2). We are looking to build our family home (kids in a few years, but we already have a dog) but I want opinions as to which house you would build.

A) Single storey that has nice street appeal and large rooms but leaves up with no backyard (literally). $220,000 to build If we sell it now we will be in profit $90,000 http://celebrationhomes.com.au/go/new-home-designs/display-home-details&id=3&groupID=1

B). 2 Story that is doesn’t look as nice as single storey and has slightly smaller rooms (only the master bedroom really) but leaves us with half the block as the backyard. $270,000 to build, if we sell it now we would be in profit $75,000

Go for the two story. Financially things might be in a slump right now, but they will turn around and you will kick yourselves afterwards. Also, you might want to make sure that you get the place you are looking for to live in as opposed to sell. Look at your future needs for a home. Go from there. If you are going to move out in 4 years more bedrooms are not a big deal. If you are going to stay there for 15 to 20 years with kids and pets, then maybe you need to look at the 2 story.
