Your Questions About Swimming Pool Decks Paint

June 1st, 2011 by Suntan

Ruth asks…

[English learner]Is this make sense?

Hi, I’m studying in Canada.
I made a conversation between my friend.
So, please correct any awkward parts in it.

1. (My friend was painting a dry wall, it had pretty big hole on it like half of one dollar bill. He put some paster before he put the paint on the wall)
A: Hey, are you trying to paint it?
B: Yes.
A: What is the black tape around the paint.
B: It’s kind of masking tape or protection tape. You don’t wanna paint over the paster part.
A: Aha, I see. But I was wondering whether or not you put the tape over the white paster.
B: What do you mean?
A: I mean. If you attach the tape over the white paster, you would paint twice because underneath the tape, it will remain as the white paster. So, it’s like a double job. You will have to paint the white paster part again.
B: Hm… Is it?
A: Yes. After you detach the tape, you would see the white part remaining, which is not covered by paint.
B: I see. I will make sure that so I don’t need to work twice. / so I don’t need to do double job.
A: Good luck~!!

2. The building is huge. It’s 30 story building. They connected the two 30 floor buildings with a long roof on the highest floor. It’s not a roof but kind of sub floor. There are swimming pool, deck for dance, and some place to take a break so people can see the skyline of the city. They used cantilever on it. At the end of the deck, you would feel like you are standing on the middle of the air. That’s kind of scary. The way they built was (that) they connected the cantilever to the main building with huge bolt so that the building press down the weight of the cantilever. The weight of the cantilever deck is over 10000 pound.

Suntan answers:

First, your question should be “Does it make sense?”
Hmm, I really don’t get what you were trying to tell your friend! And I have never seen people use some kinds of tape before painting a wall. @_@
Well, I think your vocabulary is pretty good, and you’re good at observing and describing things.

Daniel asks…

Which of the following items if added to a home will recoup 100% or more of its cost at the time of its resale

hot tub, in-ground swimming pool, tennis court, extra bathroom, fireplace, wood deck, privacy fence, garage converted to living area, extensive landscaping, new exterior paint, new carpet.

Suntan answers:

In my opinion and past research:

hot tub = 20%
in ground swimming pool = 40%
Tennis Court = 25%
Extra Bathroom = 75%
fireplace = 50%
wood deck = 20%
privacy fence = 10%
garage converted to living area = 0% to negative 100%
extensive landscaping = 30%
new exterior paint = 125%
new carpet = 125%

James asks…

I need suggestions on the name of my story so far?

I felt the cold, bitter wind rush against my face, as I ran as fast as I could down the long narrow driveway. I could hear the thing behind my seeming to get closer every time my foot hit the ground. My heart was racing a hundred and fifty miles a hour, it seemed, but, I kept pushing myself, I couldn’t slow down, it would surely get me if I did. That thought motivated me enough to run a little faster, but, it still seemed to be getting closer. It was getting darker outside and before I knew it I was running in the woods, jumping over fallen trees and piles of brush. I could hear the thing behind me even louder now than before. My mouth was getting dry and my legs began to ache, I didn’t think I could go on any further and that’s when I collapsed.

When I woke up it was morning and the sun was shining bright. It was warm against my face, despite the bitter cold air. I was still lying in the woods where I collapsed the night before wandering why that thing didn’t just eat me. Now I am lost in the woods and don’t know where the heck I’m at. I don’t know where to go. The woods were creepy even in the day time, most of the trees were hunched over or fallen down like a tornado or some other strong storm had gone through it the night before. There were dead leaves on the ground and the sound of rushing water somewhere in the distance. I couldn’t see too far into the woods because of the thick gray fog that covered the ground. I sat down on a nearby fallen tree and started to think about where I was before the thing was chasing me.

I didn’t like being in the mountains, isolated, 12,000 feet from sea level. Looking out the back window of the jeep started to make me sick to my stomach the further we ascended up the mountain, but, this is the place my parents talked me into going for Easter vacation. We always go on vacation for Easter, but, we usually go to The Bahamas, not the mountains. This year they wanted to try something new. We arrived at the cabin later that afternoon. The cabin was pretty big. The door opened to the living room and a left turn took you to the first room. Going straight through the living room you entered the dining/kitchen. On the right of the kitchen was a bathroom. Walking through the kitchen to the sliding glass doors took you out to the huge deck with a hot tub and a drained swimming pool. Another bedroom and bathroom was located upstairs. Upstairs the cabin didn’t have a flat roof like most houses, the rafters were exposed, and it was in the shape of a triangle it looked rather nice. The cabin was decorated with painted pictures of the mountains and forests. The furnisher was a bluish green color touched up with small white flowers and green and blue pillows. The fireplace was my favourite item in the house, it, was covered in grey and brown river rock. The owners of the cabin provided us with wood in the shed out back. My parents and my little brother, left about 3 hours after we arrived and unpacked, to the store to get some groceries. I decided to get in the hot tub while they were gone. I got into my bathing suit and stepped in the water and immediately pulled my foot out, I didn’t expect it to be that hot. The next time I started slowly and it wasn’t as bad. The water was almost unbearably hot once I submerged my whole body in it. I was in the tub for about 10 minutes when I saw a strange figure in the woods staring straight at me with big bright red eyes, but, not the kind you see in movies, these eyes were shaped like a crescent moon or the tip of a fingernail. I got out of the hot tub and grabbed my towel to dry off my face to erase any illusions I might be seeing, but, what I wished to be an illusion was still the red eyed figure staring at me. I blinked a couple of times and it was gone, just like that. I turned around and walked back into the house locking the door behind me. I never wanted my parents as bad as I did then. I walked into the bathroom and put my clothes on. I walked in the living room to the jacket closet and grabbed my jacket out, it, was getting chilly in the house. I turned to look out the door again and the figure was on the back deck staring in the sliding glass door. The figure was huge, it seemed to be maybe 10 foot tall. It looked like it walked on two legs instead of four. I could tell it was hairy from the small thin spikes jutting randomly from the creatures body. It ran for the door but failed to break it. I screamed and jolted to the front door, throwing it open and started running up the driveway. That’s all I remembered.

My stomach was growling and my mouth was extremely dry, almost like I haven’t had anything to drink in 2 months. I felt the outside of my pockets to see if I could feel my cell phone, but, I had no luck, all I could find was a half smoked pack of Marlboro Menthols and a green and purple lighter that said Jessica along the flat side. Jessica was a tall slim girl. At 18 years old her parents let her smoke as long as she
At 18 years old her parents let her smoke as long as she kept up her own habit. Now this girl was lost in the woods with nothing to her name but a half smoked pack of cigarettes and a lighter that barely worked.

I can fell drops of water hitting my skin getting more and more often with each passing second, until, it was a steady drizzle. When I lifted my arm I could see ice pellets bouncing off the blue sleeve of my jacket. Great it was already cold and now it’s sleeting and raining. All the leaves had fallen off the trees leaving me with nowhere to take cover.

I decided that I wasn’t going to get anywhere if I didn’t move. The question was: Where do I go? I decided to go towards the sound of the rushing water to see if anyone lived on the water or if there was at least an empty cabin to wait till the weather got better.

Suntan answers:

WOAH SLOW DOWN. A good author doesn’t go right ahead and describe every detail or a house or character etc.

Your Questions About Swimming Pool Decks Above Ground

May 19th, 2011 by Suntan

Lizzie asks…

What size dumpster would I need for an above ground pool?

I am taking down a 16×32 foot oval above ground swimming pool & a small deck. What size dumpster would I need or how much do you think this would weigh? Thanks.

Suntan answers:

You really don’t have to be concerned about weight follow the link and pick your size
from a old timer
http://sanitationbywhites.com/html/dumpster_sizes.html

Paul asks…

I keep finding some very small pebbles in my above ground swimming pool?

I have an above ground pool., I have pea gravel all around the ground around the pool., getting into the pool is above ground deck from the house., so you don’t have to go anywhere around the pool first. I have some straw in some areas for grass growing., but the last two days we found about seven small stones in the bottom of the pool….could birds be picking them up and dropping them???we are confused as how they are getting in the pool?

Suntan answers:

Hey Whirl Wind 123,

Birds use stones to help them grind up their food. Perhaps you have put down the right size for them, then as the pick them up – perhaps drop them on the filght out. It is known as Grit – and is the punch line to “what do you find in the bottom of a bird cage that ends with the letters ‘it’?”

My first thought was an animal at night, but when you mentioned birds, this has to be it.

Chris asks…

Above Ground Pool With Deck???

Thinking about buying an oval above ground swimming pool (18′X33′) and building a nice deck all the way around it so it basically looks similar to an in-ground pool. My question: Would the pool last for several years this way or need to be replaced after a few years?

Suntan answers:

Above grounds with decks are fine, but you should leave room for that liner replacement……think it through…..you need access to that top rail, remove it and hook the liner onto the sidewall, replace the top rail. The liner replacement would be better if you didn’t have to walk around the interior of the pool, messing up the sand, as you pull that liner.

Also remember the sides of the deck are elevated and create a falling hazard for young as well as adults. I’ve seen where people have installed the flexible nets on the outside of the decks ….like on trampolines…to prevent falling.

Lisa asks…

ARE ABOVE GROUND SWIMMING POOLS ANY GOOD?

so im wanting to get a above ground pull we used to have a in ground in the earley 90′s but got it smashed up and burried it now were wanting one again but a above ground with a deck and im just curious if there any good
i dont swim much so juust lo relax but i was meaning like do tey colappse easy and stuff like that

Suntan answers:

Above ground has it’s advantages. Much less expensive. Not as permanent. Nice to swim in and cool off. Relatively easy to install.

The disadvantages over an in-ground — basically the depth. You can’t dive in an above ground, obviously. And above ground are usually smaller than in ground. So it depends on what you mean by “any good.”
Edit: No, they don’t collapse. I mean, it’s not unheard of, but it’s extremely rare, like struck by lightening rare.
I would go with a steel walled pool for durability, rather than the cheap ones that are basically a liner and pipe frame.
My parents have had the same steel walled pool for 15 years with no problems. (They replaced the liner once in all those years. )

Joseph asks…

can some please help me find a swimming pool?

Sandra asks…

What would be the approximate cost of civil work for installation of pre-fab swimming pool?

I want to install a pre-fabricated swimming pool of size 39 ft. x 15 ft. and depth of 4 ft. 4 inches. I would like to know what would be the cost of civil works like excavation in soft soil, decking with simple tiles and a plant room of 10 m2. I want to install the pool half in ground and half above. I have already got a quote for the pool and filteration plant.

Suntan answers:

Hi
As you have asked for a Pre-Fabricated pool, the size of the pool is actually 38′x15′(11.6×4.5m) with constant depth of 4′.
The approximate price of pool will be 10Laks+ Installation+Forwarding+TAX.

You have another option of Gunited pool which can be worked out.

Donald asks…

Above ground pool questions…..?

Ok first of all let me start out by saying thank you to anyone who can answer these because my husband and I are going nuts trying to figure it out!
We bought the house 2 years ago and it came with an above ground pool 21″ whatever that means… it’s a round one. (As you can tell my husband deals with it mostly I just swim in it!) Anyway the questions I have are….
1.) On the pool deck there’s outdoor carpeting that looks like mold it’s so old and gross ( I refuse to walk on it without my flip flops!) and I want to replace it, but the people at the pool store said I would have to take the deck apart and relay the carpeting professionally… that sounds like a load of crap to me like they’re just trying to make money off a clueless pregnant girl… The old carpeting looks like it was laid down under pieces of metal glued and then the metal was bolted on. Couldn’t I just tear the old crap out and glue down new stuff? Maybe that’s just a lazy way to go about it, but couldn’t that work?
2nd question.) The pool place also sold us $150 worth of chemicals, which I’m scared to use because I’m 4 1/2 months pregnant… does anyone know if using natural products with only a little chlorine would be ok? Or do the same thing?

Please any answers at this point will be so helpful!

Suntan answers:

I used to have a loose carpet around mine and that way in the winter, I just rolled it up and hung it on the side of the garage. And yes the guy is lying to you. For the chemicals call a spa shop and ask…………wouldn’t have to have many….just the correct amounts………..dirty water can hurt you also……..just do it………..have fun.

Susan asks…

Swimming Pool pricing help?

I’ve looked at a lot of sites about how much an above ground pool will cost, but none of them tell me exactly how much everything will cost.
I want to know how much it’ll cost to have an above ground pool installed in my backyard along with a deck and all the stuff I will need to buy along with it. I saw a site that will install a pool for $3000 and it’s 18ft x 33ft and 4ft deep. Good price?
Thanks in advance. Sites are welcomed.

Suntan answers:

I just got a pool!
My parents payed $4200 with a deck, pool cleaner etc. (But we also had a spraying feature wall built in)
$3000 is definately a good price, but keep looking around getting quotes!
Hope I helped :)

Jenny asks…

What’s an aesthetic design for the exterior of a swimming pool?

recently, I had installed an above ground 12 foot diameter pool. the grass has been killed off around the surrounding area, and I have only had time to put a few potted tropical plants in places.
I wont be doing any major work now with summer almost over, but I want to design over the winter something nice to do for next year. A running deck even to the top of the pool isnt an option. but what about one that is 1 foot off the ground? so that it could be walked on, have pool toys sit there and that way my kids and i dont have to walk in the mud around it?
should it be wood or some other material? wood seems like high maintenance. I guess I could just build a landscaping bed but it might get ruined with too muich water when it splashes out and it drains when i clean it once a month.

thank you for any suggestions.:)

Suntan answers:

One thing you might consider is a cool deck this is a deck that no matter how hot it gets this deck will not burn your feet.they do work i have been on them bare footed. And you can have any color you want owner of pool company for eleven years.

Your Questions About Swimming Pool Decks Ladders

Michael asks…

Would this be a good…. Movie Cartoon or Book?

There is a young pretty girl in her late teens who works at a lesure swimming pool as a lifeguard. She desperatley needs some new sneakers as her current one are very worn down, but currently dosen’t have the money for some new ones. After a long day at the baths, she walks home from the pool and when walking down a dark alley, she see’s a pair of neatly placed new sneakers in the middle of the narrow alley facing her. She stares directly at them and by coninsedence they are the designer ones she wanted. But afraid by the dark she steps over them and carrys on walking. Later that night she regrets not picking them up as shese got to put up with her old ones which have holes in them at work. The next day she was on her way to work and was walking down the alley, When she saw the sneakers. This time she didn’t hesitate and grabbed them and put them in her sports bag. When she arrived, at her locker she kicked off her old sneakers and pulled out the ones she had found. There wasn’t nothing special about them, they seemed in very good condition with slight wear on the inner soles. They where neatly laced and there tongues where slightly pointing up. With out looking at even the size she just slipped them on. She wore them barefoot and they where comfy and fitted perfect. She threw her old ones in her locker as spares, then went by the pool. She was one of the last persons around the pool as she had to prepare the pool for the next day. It had been a hot long day, so she slipped off her sneakers and left them beside the pool and began stacking up the deck chairs. Suddenly she heard a noise coming from her sneakers like a choking noise. She looked at them from a distance away and they where both shuddering and shaking. She walked over to them and looked in there throats. She screamed in horror as they where coughing up blood from the insides of them. They started getting violant, blood started coming out of the shoes and splattering on the floor, then all of a sudden all the blood disappeared into the shoes. The girl began to run. Then the sneakers tied themselves, there tongues sprung up and began to chase the girl down by the pool. The girl slipped onto her back and the shoes slipped themselves onto her feet and began to tie so tight her ankles began to go slightly purple. The sneakers forced her back onto her feet and dragged her to the deep end of the pool. The girl was in a state breaking into tears. The shoes went over the edge of the pool and teased her, until the shoes lifted of there heels and into the pool. On the desent one of the shoes laces untied and tied itself onto the ladder, The whole pool filled with blood which was gushing out the air holes of the sneakers. The girl struggled to get up to surface, but the shoe wouldn’t let go of the ladder. Eventually she drowned and the shoe untied itself and the body rose to the surface of the blood filled pool. The shoes freed themselves from her feet, rose to the surface and got out the pool. They shook like a wet dog spalttering the wall with dotches of blood. They stared at the body for a couple of seconds before walking off leaving a prints of blood. The story continues as other people find the shoes until one day somebody destroys them.

Suntan answers:

Good grief!
Are you related to Stephen King or Dean Koontz?

Not a cartoon – I do not associate such terror and gore with cartoons.
Definitely a book.

That story would totally freak me out, but at the same time I’d read every word (probably twice).

Laura asks…

Need Unwanted Pool Ideas?

Pool Picture:

http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/456/4283081p01.jpg

it’s very deep for some serious diving.
My wife can’t swim.
My dogs can’t swim.
So if i go swimming and start to drown then no one can save me.
upkeep would be a small fortune.

It would cost from $2000 to $8000 to fill it in (prob closer to $8000 due to the depth and no way to get a dump truck in the back yard – or even one of those 1-man cat-bulldozer things. just wheel barrels)

can’t turn it into a pond because of city code and mosquito fears from the city.

What if i build some kind of a room into it?

here’s what i’m thinking and someone give me some feedback or point me toward a link.
1 – put about 12 inches of dirt and gravel in the bottom and level it out.
2 – put a deck on top of that. the deck anchored to stone blocks that are sitting about 6 inches in the dirt.
3 – put multiple support beams up.
4 – put a 2nd water proof deck on top of the support beams. wall from top to bottom with dirt on all sides. (wood walling)
5 – put about 12 inches of dirt on top of that.
6 – plant grass, install door with a ladder or folding stairs, use existing pool electrical for lighting.

There would be 12 inches of dirt & rock in the bottom in case water gets in – it won’t just puddle on the ‘floor’ and will help to soak up the water till it evaporates.
Water evaporates fast in this part of Arizona. very dry. but the rainy season can be up to 3 inches of rain in one burst.
“The annual average precipitation at Buckeye is 7.91 Inches. Rainfall in is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The wettest month of the year is August with an average rainfall of 1.22 Inches.”

the supports would be anchored on the lower deck well and prop up the upper deck.
i figure i’d build the walling with 2×4′s about 8 inches apart sandwiched between thick plywood.

In the end it will look like a sidewalk around a grassy knoll that you can walk on except for a small ventilation fan with a grate over it.

I’m still wondering about drainage, though.

What do you think? possible? suggestions?

Suntan answers:

It sounds exciting and well worth a try. Water could be a problem but pools are waterproofed and usually have a rise so water should not flow in but unfortunately you do have to plan for the problem of a bigger than average rainfall so good luck. Perhaps have an open-able roof so if things do get a bit damp you could open it to dry. A games room would be good….darts, table tennis…..things that do not get rusty or affected by damp…..wine cellar, cocktail bar, workout area ….all a lot more useful than a pool.

James asks…

What are some funny things your Dachshund does?

Name some funny things that your Dachshund does. Include what type (Mini, Standard etc)

Send me funny photos of your Dachshund. My email address is on the website.

I send the following a while back to my Dachshund Club about my boy Pickles. http://www.southjerseydachshundclub.com/index.htm

Yawns like a person complete with yawning noises. Starting at about 9:30 PM or just before I put him in for the night he is Mr. Yawny!

Knows what “There is someone to bark at” means. I say that if we are outside. He looks up and charges full speed at the fence line to bark as whoever is walking by.

When he runs full speed like above he is mostly crooked. I say he looks like his butt is trying to pass his head!

Has to chew his very abrasive Nylabone on a part of our bare skin. He seeks it out! That does not last for very long.

Knows the drop and roll maneuver very well for belly rubs to total strangers. Once he was outside, ran at full speed and slid in the leaves sideways and stopped right at my feet with belly up in belly rub position. I could not stand up I was laughing so much.

Absolutely loves being in the snow even when it was well above his head.

Has really taken to kicking up lots of grass and usually a jump or 2 at the end after doing his business, 1 or 2…

Gets really annoyed and yipes loudly when he is playing with another dog in our yard that is faster than him. Sammy is a Pug that Pickles plays with VERY well. Sammy can leave him in the dust. Pickles is not happy with that.

Burrows under the blankets in bed. The more tangled he gets the happier he is.

He sniffs into the wind. His ears flap like the an elephant! I don’t think he will take flight though…..

Climbs up on the back of a couch and sleeps there like most cats would.

Likes to get a bath and run around the house without his shirt on to dry.

Follows the sun on the carpet in the morning when he is lounging & sleeping

Wants us to throw a ball for him but does not want to give it to us. He wants to see what we will do to get it from him! He also does not always bring it back to me.

Doesn’t mind swimming with us if the water is warm. He sits on his raft. When he is tired of that he swims across the pool and climbs up the ladder to chill out on the deck.

Pickles has a bit of a licking habit. He really likes licking my forehead AKA “The Great Baldini”.

If we are in the house and he thinks he is going out he walks ahead of us and looks back every few steps to see if we are still following him.

He pretty much ONLY turns & spins counter clockwise.

Pickles LOVES cheese & boiled chicken. I take the zip bag of cheese out of the refrigerator. He jumps and bonks himself in the head with the cheese bag. It does not stop him for a second.

He likes to go in the car. I frequently take him with me on errands like the bank if I don’t have to get out of the car. He knows when you jump on my lap so the teller can see him and he gets a treat.

A photo would be better for this but….. I sit with the recliner foot rest up and my legs bent. Pickles pushes backwards to rest on my legs and sits straight up – all just to get belly rubs. The first time he did this my legs were flat out. He did a slow fall backwards like a tree going TIMBER!

He play digs on the bed and couch but really never digs outside (Luckily!)

Sandy asks…

I want to become a lifeguard?

I live on long island and im turning 15 this december I was wondering what type of training I need to do before the red cross course thingy.
(this is what u havta do)
2) Swim 300 yards continuously; using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick; 100 yards of breast stroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence; and 100 yards of either front crawl using rhythmic breathing or breaststroke. These 100 yards may be a mixture of front crawl and breaststroke. (Note: There is no time requirement for this skill. The participant must show only that he or she can swim 300 yards using the above strokes without stopping.)

3) Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. (NOTE: When returning to the starting point, the participant must hold the 10-pound object with both hands, placing the brick on his or her chest, and must keep his or her face above the water.) The participant can swim on his or her back using an elementary backstroke kick, flutter kick or a rotary (eggbeater) kick. The participant must exit the water using his or her strength. The time is complete once the participant has exited the water and is standing up on the pool deck. The purpose of the timed event is to ensure that the participant demonstrates comfort in the water along with enough speed, strength and endurance to perform a combination of basic skills that are required and built upon throughout the course.

So i run cross country and Im in generally good shape except im not spectacular at swimming.
So how much do I have to swim to be able to do the above?

Suntan answers:

You have to be able to swim the 340 yards-as set above. However, the training for the competition should always be harder than the competition itself. When i train for triathlons, I only need to swim 750m, but I usually swim up to 3 km in one hour. You need to buuld your stamina, in the three strokes, so consider swimming 3-5 minutes at a fast pace, with 2 minutes gentle swimming afterwards, 3-5 times. Do this in all 3 strokes, in one swim session. For the next section of your session, practise their drill. The section for part 2 will help with swimming to the object, but when at the object, you need to be able to swim with just a kick. Choose one of the kick’s mentioned above (which ever one suites you best-try all 3), then practise it. Alternate between holding a weight on your chest, just lying in the required position and kicking, using flippers and using a float.

Because you are 15, you can probably train these up enough in about a year or two. I managed to train those skills up for triathlon in 6-8 months, training about 3 times per week, so you should manage to do it fairly easily. Good luck, and thanks for choosing to become a lifeguard.

Lisa asks…

Does he like me or is he just messing around?

Ok, I have a best guy friend that lives in another state. We went to visit our friends and family this past summer as normal. We spent the night (his sis, my sis, me and him) at his house. It was like mid-night and his sis and my sis were messing around upstairs and we were lying on the floor downstairs next to each other. He starts poking me in the elbow and then I poke him back and it’s like a chain reaction. I roll away and he comes after me trying to poke me.

Then the next day we went swimming in his neighbors pool and we were messing around again. When I was trying to get off of the ladder he runs off the deck and jumps over my head. And that is also a chain reaction. I jump over him, he jumps over me over and over again.

Then when we get clothes on we play hide and seek, he was counting in the hall near his stairs and I ran down the hall past him and he kicked me and me and him started laughing.

Then I hid in their “work room” we call it (where they keep their decorations and stuff.) We found a empty wrapping paper roll and started fighting like star wars. Then he hit me in the arm really hard and I dropped the roll and held my arm. He dropped his and came over to see if I was ok and he kept saying how sorry he was and stuff.

So does he like me?? I kinda like him now! But IDK if he likes me! So what do you think?
I have known him 4ever!

Maybe. Or maybe not. Don’t jump ahead into conclusions. Do things slowly and wisely.

Need help getting a mortgage?

Hello All.

I’n a bad situation where I have to move.

I’m tired of wasting money and paying 1200/mo in rent. I’d like to buy a home. Currently i’m looking to buy a 10yr old 2-Family home for $400,000.

Lower level has 2 bed 1 bath where I will live.

Upper two level have 4bedroom 2 bath, back yard, front yard gated parking, swimming pool w/ deck.

I plan on renting the upper two floors for nearly 2k/mo. I can easily afford this – but my vital stats dont look too good on paper.

Location: NYC
First time home owner.
27yrs old – single
Salary 45-55k
CC Debt: 4k
Credit Score: 700
Student Loans: 23k
Bank Account: 6.5k Cash
Downpayment: 20k
My last 3 year tax returns have been below 35k.

I filled out the online Lending Tree application and received offers from Quickenloans and American Federal.

However the second portion of this online application is the “Real” application.

Am I wasting my time with these companies?

Is there a better route to get a mortgage?

Is there anything I can do to “pad” my stats to get the loan? (additional income? larger bank account?, pay down cc debt?)

I do have additional income but it comes from side ventures and consulting (roughly 20k more).

I do not want to waste time filling out applications to places where I know I’ll end up denied.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks

I would suggest asking maybe your parents or someone close to you to help you out on getting the house. If they co-sign with you, you might have a better chance of receiving the loan from the bank. It’s a big step, but it’s a good investment.

Also if you have a 401k, you could take out money from there to pay for a house without being charged penalty for withdrawing it early.

Math please help for super smart math people ?

Curly dug his own swimming pool by hand with a shovel. He figured he needed a pool because digging it was hard work, and he could use it to cool off after working on it all day. He also planned a rectangular concrete deck around the pool that would be 6 feet wide at all points. The pool is rectangular and measures 14 feet by 40 feet. What is the area of the deck?

Suntan answers:

Pool including deck would measure (14 + 6 + 6) by (40 + 6 + 6)
= 26 by 52 feet.
Area = 26 x 52 = 1352 sq feet
Area of the pool = 14 x 40 = 560 sq feet

So the area of just the deck = overall area – area of the swimming pool
= 1352 – 560 = 792sq feet

Richard asks…

I am planning to book a cruise out of Galveston in January. Will we be able to swim in the pool in January?

Is it too cold to hang out on deck? I know Mexico will be nice, but how long will it take to get to the warmer weather?

Suntan answers:

It all depends on the weather. We have sailed in December and January and the weather has been both hot and cold. You will be able to hang out on the open decks comfortably. Depending on the cruise you will normally be in warmer weather overnight.
One suggestion is if your looking for January sailing the sooner you book that cruise the better. We have a client that wanted February sailing and the ship is full for all sailings.

math question help me please?

Zach used a shovel to dig his own swimming pool.

He also planned to build a rectangular concrete deck around the pool

that would be 6 ft. wide in all points.

The pool is rectangular and measures 14 ft by 40 ft.

What is the area around the deck????

Suntan answers:

(14+12) * (40+12) = 1,352 ft.

Maria asks…

I want to fill in my swimming with dirt and stone.?

I am sick of the pool. How much of the bottom do I need to bust out so water will not collect? I was planning on renting a jack hammer to tear out the deck and throw all this into the pool. The bottom is gunite, sides are fiberglass.
My buddy has a Bobcat so we can fill in the balance of pool with gravel and dirt.
I will probably plant a few trees and landscape over the filled in area.
I live in Dallas so freezing weather in not a problem.

Suntan answers:

As a poolguy who has been in the biz 20 years i will tell you this,, you just cant bury a pool,, you need a permit to dig it and in alot of areas you neeed a permit to bury it,, the bottom has to be knocked out and the dirt needs to be compressed by a stamper,, and this is done in stages,, its for safety so the dirt will not collapse when you walk on it,, and the inspector needs to check it out,, i have removed lots of pools and it usually cost about 8000 dollars for the whole project, different areas have different laws,, and if the pool is on record in your county and you remove it without notifying the county then one day when you sell the house they will a come a knocking,, because they will look at the records ang say oh you have a pool on record, and you will say i got rid of it and then they will ask for your permit number and if you dont have one you could wind up in court for violating city or county codes,, so please check it out before you find yourself in some deep doo doo,, best of luck ,, arthur,, a retired pool dude

Your Questions About Swimming Pool Decks Tile

April 28th, 2011 by Suntan

Mary asks…

My concrete deck has separated from the tile at the shallow end of my pool. Anyone else have this problem?

I had a swimming pool put in last summer and now at the shallow end the concrete deck has separated from the tile. apparently the soil underneath has expanded and cause the concrete to rise. has anyone else had this problem? I hate to think the pool company is going to have to destroy the entire deck to fix tis problem.

Suntan answers:

It is not uncommon for the earth to settle under new construction like that if the soil was not properly compacted first. It depends on how much settling has happened as to whether they will have a simple repair or they will have to do a complete tear out. If you have the money to hire an inspector you should do that so to can tell the original contractor what they need to do. The city or county that you live in may provide an inspector for free. It is very important taht you get the repair done properly so it does not get worse.

Nancy asks…

What type of caulk is used on the rim of a inground swimming pool?

Just above the tile and under the overhang of the deck? Is there a special type for this application or would just waterproof silicone work ok? Existing caulk is old, cracked and seperatring away in areas.
There is a bead of caulk there now or another type of rubber like material but it is not grout .
Has anyone used deckoseal before?

Suntan answers:

I own a pool company.you need to re grout it

Lisa asks…

How important is pool calking condition?

I have an older swimming pool that the calking between the tile and the deck cracked in several spots . Does it matter and should I take all the old calking out before replacing it or is it not a big deal except for looks ?

Suntan answers:

Your are better off removing all of the old caulking before applying any new caulking

Sandy asks…

Could you tell me whats ok to use at this day spa on Monday?…..?

Going to a spa on Monday for my husbands 30th birthday, I’ve got treatments booked suitable for pregnancy, but just wondered about the actual spa facilities:

Pool – A 14m x 6m deck level swimming pool heated to 27-29 degrees C with side access steps, water jet feature and a constant depth of 1.2m.

A mosaic tiled spa pool heated to 37 degrees C with a combination of water and air jets offering relaxing and therapeutic water massage.

Feature Shower – With beautiful copper effect mosaic tiles and LED lighting this is a delightful drench shower with a 21cm shower head, body jets and the option of warm or cold water to give the whole body an instant rinse down leaving you feeling cleansed and refreshed.

Is it ok to let the water fall jet in the pool go on my neck and upper back etc? I’m sure the pool temp is ok, and just thought that as I cant have a massage the jet will be relaxing. I think maybe the jacuzzi is too warm so doubt I can use that. Also, the feature shower, does that sound ok? I obviously know I can’t use the sauna or steam room as they’re far too hot, but just wondered about the other features. Many thanks

Suntan answers:

If you’re out of your first trimester and not close to your due date, all should be fine. If you are still in your first trimester, limit your stay in anything hotter than body temperature (37deg;C) to 5 minutes or less. During your first trimester, your baby’s development is most susceptible to damage from overheating. As you approach your due date, heating your body can induce labor. In Finland, post-term mothers use the sauna to get the baby out.

Once you are out of your first trimester, it is safe to use hot tubs, the sauna and steam room, just listen to your body. A Canadian team did studies on women and found that even in a 39°C hot tub, body temperature could rise to a fetal-damaging level in 15-25 minutes. All of the women tested in an 80°C sauna felt discomfort and left before their body temperatures reached fetal-damaging levels.

Keep in mind that water transfers heat more efficiently than air. So even though the sauna and steam room are much hotter, your body temperature rises more slowly than when it is immersed in water.

William asks…

Please help!?!?!?!?!?

A park that is 130 feet wide and 180 feet long is surrounded by a brick walkway that is 4 feet wide. What is the area of the brick walkway?

A swimming pool that is 60 feet long and 25 feet wide is surrounded by a tiled deck that is 6 feet wide. How many 1-foot square tiles are in the deck?

Please explain the steps as to how you got your answers. Thank you SO much!

Suntan answers:

So the best way to do this would be to draw a diagram. Draw a rectangle and label the width 130 ft and the length 180 ft. The area of the park is ..
A= lw
a= 180*130
a= 23, 400

Now there is a 4 ft pathway surrounding the park. Draw a diagram! You can see that the 4 foot pathway makes the width 138 ft (4 additional ft on each side) and the length 188 ft (4 additional ft on each side). The area of the park with the walkway is ..
A= lw
a= 138*188
a= 25, 944

Now to get the area of the walkway only, subtact the two areas.

25,944 – 23,400 = 2544.

For the second problem, you basically do the same thing. Find the area of the pool, then the area of the pool with the tiled deck. Then substract the two areas.
