How to anchor a 10×20 Patio canopy to cement?
I bought a 10×20 party canopy for my folks. It is going to cover their back patio. The patio is cured cement. Now, the canopy isn’t huge, and only needs protection against wind really.
Would using masonry screws, I think 12 (maybe 16) in total be enough to hold it down during wind? I know they sell those bolt and shield anchors…but that might be overkill.

Suntan answers:
It depends what kind of canopy it is, but Lowes or Home Depot sell many different types of anchors. Hold them down with Tapcons.

Lizzie asks…
Where can I buy a wood patio swing with canopy and side tables?
I have a wood patio swing with a metal “A” frame that has a canopy and built in side tables, unfortunately the wood has cracked after 10 years of use. I’d love to replace it with a high quality contemporary model but haven’t been able to find a stylish replacement. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mark asks…
any ideas on recovering the canopy on my patio swing?
the canopy on my patio swing wore out and I need ideas on putting some kind of cover on the frame

Suntan answers:
If you have the remainder of the canopy– use it for a pattern…… Don’t forget the length necessary to slide thru the framework. Handcocks has “outdoor” fabric–
Otherwise, get an old sheet or blanket– fit the size to the canopy and use that for measuring the amount of fabric needed.
If you need to seam the fabric to make the piece big enough– be sure and use a “flat-fell” seam. I’m sure you can google for how to do this. Or in a basic sewing book. It isn’t hard but it is particular in “how to”.
Good luck

Solid canopy for patio table….where to purchase one?
I am looking for a good solid canopy to put over my outdoor patio table and chairs (six chairs with table) and umbrella…….I bought one but it was cheap and had aluminum poles…I want something more solid…any good websites where to purchase patio things, as I am redoing our backyard for summer cookouts….thanks in advance

Suntan answers:
The thing you’re talking about might better be bought locally, but here’s a site with really nice structures.

As you can see, you can buy things as kits if you aren’t in the same area as this company. Maybe they’d sell you plans and you could have it built locally.
This site:

has some handsome structures, but they appear to all be connected to the house. If your patio table is near the house, this might do.

Sandy asks…
where can i get a replacement canopy for my patio umbrella?

Suntan answers:
This is part of the problem with outsourcing. The cost to manufacture overseas, ship to a U.S. Distributor, warehouse until ordered, then ship again to a retail store is just as high for replacement parts as for a whole new item — patio umbrellas are just one example. So replacement parts are simply not available because there is no benefit to repairing over replacing.

That’s OK though, we need more garbage in the landfills
