Your Questions About Deck Software Free

James asks…

Is there an active online MTG community where I can put up a deck list, and have it critiqued?

I make decks on a semi-frequent basis in Magic. I don’t want to lose my yahoo points everytime I want someone to point out a flaw I overlooked. Especially when I run the risk of someone saying “I don’t know” just to get 2 free points of their own.

I would like to find a website that has a fairly large number of people on it who would critique decks. I know most of the ones I make are ok, but it would help to have help from other people so I can improve them.

Oh, and I would REALLY like it if it had that cool little thing where you can roll over a name and it just shows a visual of the card =D

With any site listed, please name its pros and cons and what available software it has when making a deck list as well.

Paul asks…

Can anyone recommend a program to record vinyl from decks onto a laptop hardrive?

I’m looking to record a set from my decks onto my laptop so that I can check the quality of my mixes. With a view to then burning it onto a cd and handing out my demo at parties. Can anyone recommend a quality programme / software that would enable me to do this. Free or cheap would be preferable as I haven’t got much money but the quality must be good.

Suntan answers:

Yeah, Audacity, and here’s a tutorial on how to make a high-quality vinyl rip using Audacity:

Betty asks…

Want to create a card based video game?

Basically, I want to create my own card game, along the lines of Magic: the Gathering, The Three Kingdoms, and Munchkins. Something along those lines. What I am wondering is if there is any free software or shareware that exist where I can punch in my rules and card specifications to test the deck, and see if any cards are over powered, which cards may need to be included and discluded and find any loop wholes to be avoided, along with making sure that every card is logical.

Is anyone familiar with such software?
Also, I use both Windows and a few Linux O.S.’s, so any suggestions for these operating systems are helpful.

Suntan answers:

Magic Set Editor is good for making custom cards. You can also create your own template for the design of the cards.

Donna asks…

recording dj decks throught my pc…….??????????????????

hi,
can anybody tell me how i can record the sound from my decks ionto my PC

ino i need a RAC – 3.5mm jack and a recording software..but is that it

and if that is it can you please tell me a good recording software thats FREE

thank you =]

Suntan answers:

Audacity.
Freeware multi track audio recording / editing software.
You won’t get a good result if you record directly from the decks.
You will need to connect the output of the deck/s to the phono input of an amplifier then connect the line out from the amp to the PC.
In order to create an LP the bass frequencies are cut by a specific amount when the recording is made and are then boosted by the same amount for playback via the amplifier.
If you go direct from deck to PC the result will be very thin and tinny.

Setup:
Deck out to amp phono in. Probably RCA’s to RCA’s.
Amp line out to PC in. RCA to 3.5mm stereo jack.
Audacity set to record from line in.

There is a learning curve with any recording program and although it’s free Audacity is no exception. You may need a bit of trial and error to set it up but once that’s done it becomes routine.

George asks…

How do I convert my .avi’s to DVDs, standard signal DVDs?

My kids have video cameras. One is a Vidster, one is a VideoNow brand camera. Neither take very high quality pictures, but my kids like them. I also have a Dazzle video converter to put my own Hi-8 videos onto my PCs for editing. Yay! What fun! Down load it to YouTube! All of these products and their software (for editing etc.) make .avi videos. That is just fine.

The problem is this: My kids want to make DVDs that will work in their grandparents, and cousins and friends standard (cheap) DVD players. I thought I could solve the problem with my Panasonic DVD recorder. I ran the .avi signal though the Panasonic and it recorded a DVD for me. Lovely. Problem: The DVD made doesn’t work on any other deck than the one it was recorded on, not the in-car DVD players, the portable DVD player, the $40. cheapie in my daughter’s room, not my parents or my in-laws.

I don’t want to buy any more electronics. All I want is a (cheap or free) app that will convert .avi to a universal DVD format.

Suntan answers:

I suggest you download Cucusoft AVI/MPEG to DVD Converter, or ConvertXtoDVD
- I recommend the first.

It will convert your video files to the dvd format readable by all standard dvd players, then burn automatically to DVD!

It is easy to use, fast and it works! Give it a try, you’ll love it

1. Download AVI/MPEG to DVD Converter here:

http://www.burner-software.com/AVI-to-DVD-Converter/MPEG-AVI-to-DVD-VCD-Converter.html

It can convert any video file.. Like wmv, mpeg, asf, avi to dvd

2. Add or drag-n-drop as many video files as the DVD can handle

3. Insert blank DVD

4. Click Convert

5. Enjoy watching those video files on your home DVD player! =)

cheers.
